Community Recommendation Letter

So I had this thought. I feel with the creation of BreakDrink, online conferences, and podcast I have created some good stuff for the higher education community. So what if one of my letter of recommendations came from the community? What if someone…oh lets say hypothetically speaking Laura Pasquini, prepared a google doc to let people comment and contribute about my contribution to the Student Affairs profession?

What are your thought? If you were on the committee what would you think about this?

University of Texas

Simply put I love The University of Texas. Mainly because my dad was a fan of the Longhorns, so I learned how to do the Hook ‘em as a small child. UT is where I started my professional career (8 years), attended graduate school, and had season tickets. Sidenote: my season tickets were bookend’d with the Ricky Williams Heisman trophy and the National Championship year.

Austin is not too far from where I live, so I could possibly return for my PhD.

Worried

I’m a husband, father, and higher ed pro. I want to be great in all those roles an often worry what adding a doc program in the mix will do.

Ed Tech Programs | Resource List

My friend Laura Pasquini shared with me a list of Education Technology Programs so I thought I should share the list with you.

Do you see any that are missing?

Research Focus

I have had several areas of research interest durring my time as a higher education professional:

  • The Economics of Higher Ed
  • Leadership Development in Males
  • The Role Media Plays in Student College Selection
  • Why Campuses Never Have Enough Parking

You have my permission to use these.

I have accidentally discovered my research interest. I say accidentally because it all started with a student affairs blog I started that eventually turned into online conferences and a podcasting network. Our focus at BreakDrink is to help and encourage professional development. Which brings me back to my post. I want to focus research somewhere around the professional development of higher education professionals. I will of course have to refine and focus my research, but that is the focus of my future dissertation.
